For six years Rodney Redd served as an assistant for Brud Bicknell at Monticello High School. Redd left the Mustangs sideline prior to the 2009 season to become the head coach of Fluvanna. This week, Redd returned to the place where he spent so many Friday nights, and he went up against his former boss in the process.

With the Flucos leading 6-0 early in the first quarter, C.J. Page streaked down the sideline for a touchdown, giving the Mustangs a 7-6 lead. Monticello would add to the lead on another C.J. Page touchdown. Page took the direct snap in what we'll call the Wild-Stang formation and found the endzone to put the Mustangs up 14-6. And that is all the offensive support the Mustangs defense would need.

Fluvanna would pull to within five points with a 27-yard field goal to close out the half, but that is all the scoring the Mustangs would allow. Fluvanna would try for some last-second heroics with 3.3 seconds remaining in the game, but Flvanna quarterback Ryan Foster was brought down on the 7-yard line to end the game.

The 14-9 halftime score would be the final score in this game. The win for Monticello would snap their three-game losing streak. Fluvanna (1-4) will look to get back on track when they William Monroe (0-5) on October 9, while Monticello (2-3) will try to start a winning streak when they host Goochland (4-1).
