Gingerbread houses are on display at the Omni Hotel in downtown Charlottesville for a holiday tradition.
The Omni is hosting the Virginia Gingerbread Christmas event. This year's theme is Celebrate! 250, in honor of the city's 250th anniversary.
Participants in the gingerbread competition made houses complete with peppermint gardens.
Though some structures are put together by adult professionals, young people are not trailing far behind.
"What amazes me every year is when I see the little guys that are 5, 6, 7, 8 years old, 9 years old, and they come in in these houses that they are so proud and the houses are so cute," said Morgan Perkins, organizer of the Virginia Gingerbread Christmas events.
The gingerbread houses all have a shot at winning a cash prize along with the people's choice award.
