Warm Clothing Drive

January 19, 2013

A warm clothing drive has only been collecting donations for the last two weeks but it has already received hundreds of articles of clothing.

The clothing drive is part of the National Day of Service, inspired by President Barack Obama's inauguration.

Patty Hailing is a volunteer for Organizing for America. She decided to hold the warm clothing drive to serve as many people in need as possible.

Nearly 50 volunteers signed up over the next two weeks to help with the drive.

"I never expected that when I went to make the pick-ups that I'd be loading up my van at every pick-up," Hailing said. "It's been incredible and the turn out has been amazing."

On Tuesday, volunteers will meet again to distribute the bags of clothing to local charities. Hailing said she hopes to make it a twice-a-year event and a new tradition for the community.
