Santa Delivers Presents to Kids at UVa Medical Center

December 20, 2012

Several children who are spending Christmas in the hospital in Charlottesville got a visit from Santa on Thursday, and he had a big box full of gifts for them.

The gift drive was inspired by Kelley Kassay, whose son, Mason, died last year. Mason battled stage four cancer for several years.

This year Kassay collected toys for sick children in honor of her son, and on Thursday, Santa gave them to the kids at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

"I know that my son's legacy lives on," said Kassay. "It's amazing because he's touched so many lives and that makes me so proud of him."

"This is a really big deal for the kids in the hospital," said Karen Teague, who works at UVa Medical. "Nobody plans to spend Christmas in the hospital."

The toy drive also provided gifts for kids at a hospital in Richmond.
