'Build Crozet Library' Gets Help From Community

As the new Crozet library gets bigger each day, the Build Crozet Library Campaign must raise $1.6 million to furnish the brand new library when it's finished, and they are getting lots of help from the whole community.

They've raised $250,000 so far but there's a lot more to go.

"We're going to get all $1.6 million but I want everyone out there to know that it's gonna take all of us and all of you," said Bill Schrader, the chair of the Fundraising Committee.

All Mudhouse Coffee locations in the area launched a new coffee on Sunday, and they'll donate $2 for every bag purchased. A local pharmacy created pins for the cause and a book store also donated a portion of their sales.

"People step up in Crozet, they want to be a part of the decision, the design and this is their way to do it," Schrader said.

One person has stepped up to rally her own age group, which is one that is not too familiar with checking out books from the library.

"I do think a lot of people my age are actually focused on school these days. So, it'll be a good spot for people to do work especially if we're doing projects," Mary Swanson, a Western Albemarle High School student said.

"When we come here [Mudhouse Coffee in Crozet], sometimes it's hard to even find a table big enough for all of us. A bigger space will be really nice," said Swanson.

She said she's putting together a fundraiser at her high school to show the community that teens are excited about the new library too. And they're ready to help.

"I just wanted to be a part of it. Everyone at the library is always so excited talking about what they're doing or have planned to help out and I just wanted to contribute," she said.

The Build Crozet Library campaign says 'Be part of helping to build the library' and Swanson says she's excited teenagers will be part of that story.
