Volunteers Wrap Holiday Gifts for Delivery to Local Seniors
December 12, 2012
Elves were hard at work in Albemarle County Wednesday afternoon wrapping presents for local seniors.
Home Instead Senior Care held its eighth year of "Be a Santa to a Senior." The company will give out more than 1,500 gifts to nearly 650 low-income seniors in the Charlottesville area.
Fifty volunteers wrapped presents Wednesday, and even more will help deliver the gifts beginning Thursday. Each gift comes with a hand-written card from a local Girl Scout.
"The seniors are the forgotten generation," said Jeanne McCusker, owner of Home Instead Senior Care. "So often, people think about kids at the holidays, which is really important, but at the same time, a lot of our seniors are home by themselves, their families are separated. And it just brings a lot of sunshine to their day."
Home Instead is still looking for money or food card donations to fill food baskets.
