It's a competition in Crozet where cakes need not apply.

The annual C'ville Pie Fest competition took place Sunday at the Mudhouse coffeeshop in downtown Crozet. Local bakers dished up their best pie creations for judgment.

The pie flavors featured everything from the classic pecan pie to dark chocolate pie to an ancho chile pie. The winning pie was a goat cheese, pear and honey pie with a touch of rosemary.

But the competition was about more than just eating homemade pies.

"I think we all associate pie with community. A lot of people share pie over Thanksgiving and other great holidays," said Rebecca Cooper, the event's coordinator. "It just seems like a really warm-hearted way to bring people in the community together and maybe remind them that not everyone is so fortunate as to have a table to share pie over."

After all of the judging, servings of the pies were sold to benefit PACEM, a local organization that provides shelter to the homeless.
