November 11, 2012

The city of Charlottesville is planning a service to commemorate Veterans Day with a civics ceremony to take place Monday.

The ceremony will be an expansion of the annual Veterans Day ceremony that typically takes place outside the Albemarle County Office Building.

The event is part of the Celebrate! 250 series, marking Charlottesville's 250th birthday. The day will feature speakers and presentations relating to the city's history, as well as special recognition for local veterans.

"To make it bigger this year, we're certainly going to celebrate the year in history for us and the sacrifices that our citizens have made over the years," said Ric Barrick, coordinator of the Celebrate! 250 events.

Congressman Robert Hurt will be among the speakers at Monday's ceremonies. The free event begins at 11 a.m. at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
