It was another celebration of science at this year's KidVention event held by the Virginia Discovery Museum, featuring everything from meteorology to zoology.

Kids and families swarmed the Key Recreation Center near the Downtown Mall for the annual event.

More than 1,200 people turned out to learn about bones, the earth, the brain and space. There were about 30 exhibitors of all kinds for kids to experiment with and learn from.

"Kids come, they have a great time, having fun, checking the heartbeat of a dog, learning about seismic energy and they don't even understand that they are beginning to build those learning skills that they are going to need all throughout their academic career," said Amy Wicks-Horn, the executive director of the Virginia Discovery Museum.

She says it's exciting to watch them have fun and learn at the same time because they don't realize just how important it is at a young age.
