Groundbreaking for Blue Ridge PACE

January 16, 2013

An organization that helps the elderly is breaking ground for a new facility Wednesday. The Charlottesville campus of PACE is expected to over this fall. PACE stands for the "Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly".

PACE provides nursing home care for 175 people, ages 55 or older. What will make this facility unique is it will allow for people to live in their homes but continue to have the care they need.

Dick Gibson, the Chairman for the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA), said, "Our object is to keep them out of nursing homes. Basically, enabling them to enjoy their life without them being institutionalized or hospitalized. So, it's all about the care of the patient and making sure they are able to live healthy and happy lives."

The expansion is a partnership between JABA, UVa, and Riverside Health Systems. It will provide more than a hundred new jobs to Central Virginia.
