Judge Overturns Death Row Conviction of Va. Man

December 28, 2012

Terri Steinberg has spent the last twelve years fighting to get her son, Justin Wolfe, off death row.

He was convicted in 2002 of murder-for-hire, killing a big-time marijuana supplier in northern Virginia. But last year the conviction was overturned.

Wolfe was awaiting a retrial at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center until Christmas Eve, when a federal judge ordered that the Commonwealth of Virginia release Wolfe unconditionally.

"Getting him home, it's going to go too quickly," said Steinberg. "We've waited for it for so long and I know that by the time we get him home, it will be wonderful. It will be so good to put peace back in my home again."

The judge also barred the Commonwealth from re-prosecuting Wolfe. This is because the convicted trigger-man recanted his testimony implicating Wolfe. Plus that same judge has ruled that prosecutors hid evidence that would have undermined their case.
