Shoes for the Homeless Sorted and Ready to Give Away
February 8, 2013
On Saturday, if the shoe fits, people can wear it for free.
After a month of collecting used but useable shoes, Shoes for the Homeless volunteers sorted through the donations for the needy on Friday afternoon.
About thirty volunteers took about three hours to sort around 3,500 pairs of shoes.
Shoes for the Homeless is an annual campaign, now in its third decade. It is a joint effort between the Salvation Army and the local Podiatry Association.
"It's important because some people can't afford shoes," said Lena Haskins, a shoe sorting volunteer. "So, they can come here and get them for free."
If you or anyone you know needs shoes, the giveaway is Saturday at the Salvation Army on Ridge Street from ten o'clock until noon.
