An open house Thursday in Albemarle County showing off at least two million dollars in new renovations.

The old Scottsville Elementary School is now a newly renovated apartment complex aimed at helping low income families find safe housing in the area.

Members of the community stopped in to see the classrooms transformed into family-style apartments complete with full kitchens and baths.

Piedmont Housing Manager, Kevin Wood, hopes tenants feel more at home.

"There are 34 tenants who are over age 62," says Wood. "I hope they will call it home and I hope they will feel like it's home."

The whole renovation took around nine months.

The school was first converted into an apartment complex back in 1991.
