Planned Parenthood Determined to Stay Open

January 8, 2013

Planned Parenthood says it will be there for it's patients no matter what, even if that means costly changes to it's buildings to meet the new regulations signed into law by Governor McDonnell.

Officials say buildings have been inspected and they are working with contractors to get estimates on building costs. They have two years to make the changes.

This is Planned Parenthood's full statement:

The regulations signed by the Governor have little to do with practicing
medicine – and everything to do with playing politics with women’s health and rights. Doctors already practice in safe offices and health centers. And we already are regulated and meet top medical standards. These regulations require health care providers to make onerous and unnecessary architectural changes only create more financial and logistical challenges for patients. In these difficult economic times, we should be doing more to help women and families access the health care these providers offer, including cancer screenings, birth control, and abortion.

Planned Parenthood Health Systems in Charlottesville, VA has received their temporary license and has up to two years to complete the structural changes to its facility. PP is currently working with their architect to develop a plan and assess the impact of these changes on our operations.
We will be fully compliant as required by the new regulations within the
given time frame.

The bottom line is that that Planned Parenthood will be here for our
patients, no matter what.
