Albemarle School Hosts Student Activity Despite Snow Day
January 25, 2013
Thousands of kids got another day off from school on Friday, but not all of them were hanging out at home.
Albemarle County schools held a special program at Greer Elementary to give children a safe place to play and learn while their parents were at work. The Inclement Weather Program ran from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The program goes into effect whenever there are back-to-back snow days.
On Friday, the students spent the day doing art projects, making crafts, playing video games, and having fun with classmates.
All Albemarle County elementary students are invited, no matter what school they attend. Parents are required to pre-register if they want their children to participate.
Organizers say the kids are excited to have something to do.
"They have been cooped up inside for a long time," said Claudia Wert, the supervisor of the program. "They come here and they have their friends, and it's very nice because we cannot go outside on a day like today."
Albemarle County students have been in class for only ten days in the month of January.
