Former Police Officer Guilty of Embezzlement

A former Albemarle County police lieutenant has pleaded guilty to stealing from a petty cash fund.

Ernest Allen was accused of taking $380 from the fund. Allen later returned the money.

On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to embezzlement and was sentenced to ten days in jail.

Allen resigned from his job when the missing money was discovered.

He had been with the department for 27 years.
