The train tracks near the Amtrak Station on West Main Street in Charlottesville shut down Friday night after a train struck a person.

Police say a freight train traveling northbound struck a pedestrian around 9 p.m. Friday. A passenger train was delayed arriving into the Charlottesville Amtrak Station, while police investigated the scene.

Officials say no other passenger trains should be affected by the delay.

The male hit by the train was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with serious injuries.
