UVa Police Investigate Alleged Hate Crime

The University of Virginia Police Department is an investigating an assault they describe as a hate crime.

The incident happened Thursday night near Brooks Hall on University Avenue. Police say the incident may have been motivated by the alleged victim's sexual orientation.

The suspect allegedly struck the student in the face and continued walking toward the Corner. The alleged victim was treated for minor injuries.

Police describe the suspect as a man with dirty blond hair, possibly a goatee. They say he's about 5' 10" tall and between 150 and 160 pounds.

Police ask anyone with information on the alleged assault to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
