An annual dinner recognized a leader in local business.

The 99th annual Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce's Dinner and Meeting brought together local business owners.

This year, the Chamber presented its Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award to Michael Gaffney. The award recognizes people who have contributed positively to the Charlottesville area.

Gaffney is the president of Gaffney Homes and has been building homes in the area for 25 years and worked as chairman with the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority.

"I think there's so many people in our community that have done so much, especially in the Chamber's 100 year history, that have made this community such a great place to live. I've just been doing a little bit like everybody else. But it's the culmination of everything that we've all done that have made Charlottesville and Albemarle County such a great place to live," said Gaffney.

In addition to his service to the community, Gaffney has run ten marathons. He was going to run his tenth in New York City this fall, but after Hurricane Sandy caused the New York City Marathon's cancellation, he ran it closer to home in the Richmond Marathon.

The dinner took place at the Doubletree Hotel in Albemarle County. It also featured Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne as the keynote speaker.
