Albemarle County Family Escapes House Fire

November 30, 2012

Firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked an early Friday morning house fire in Albemarle County.

The call came in at 1:07 a.m. and nine fire departments from the area responded to the call on Bloomfield Road. When firefighters arrived, they saw fire coming through the roof of the two-story home. There are no hydrants in that area, so water had to be shuttled in. The family got out before firefighters arrived.

"It took a lot of water, it took a large amount of time to get under control. There was a lot of fire when we got here, so we had to kind of play catch up," said Chief Daniel Tawney, Seminole Trail Fire Department.

Damage is estimated at $750,000.

Firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
