New Report Shows Retail Sales Up in Central Virginia

The local economy is showing signs of growth.

A new report from the Chrarlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce shows sales were up across most of Central Virginia.

Albemarle, Greene and Louisa Counties sales rose, as well as in the cities of Charlottesville and Waynesboro.

The report showed that since 2011 Albemarle County sales rose over one point eight percent, Greene County climbed above seven and a half percent, and Louisa County jumped up more than three percent.

Charlottesville saw more than seven percent in increased sales, while Waynesboro's sales grew by a little over three percent.

Albemarle and Charlottesville accounted for $2.293 billion (+4.35%) in total retail sales over the full course of 2012 – an increase of $96 million from 2011 but lower by $72 million (3%) from 2007 levels.
