The Virginia women's basketball team held off a late run by Miami to win 62-52 at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday. It was the second time the teams have met in the last two weeks. Miami won the first meeting on January 6, 58-52.
Four Cavaliers scored in double figures, led by Ataira Franklin who scored 17 on 6-for-8 shooting. Telia McCall added 13 points and 8 rebounds, and China Crosby and Kelsey Wolfe each had 12 points for Virginia. The Cavaliers shot 6-for-10 from three-point range in the win.
The Cavaliers took the lead 3 minutes into the game and led the rest of the way. Miami cut the lead to 5 with under six minutes left in the game, then Wolfe took a three-point shot, scooping up the rebound off her miss for a layup. Franklin stole the ball and dished it out to Crosby, whose three-pointer put the Cavaliers back up by double-digits, 56-46 with 4:45 left in the game.
With the victory, Virginia improves to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. The Cavaliers will host Boston College Thursday at John Paul Jones Arena at 7 p.m.
