Burruss Jumping to South Carolina

Javanique Burruss is one of Virginia's top track and field stars and now the highly-decorated Burruss will take her talents to the University of South Carolina.

Burruss signed her letter of intent to join the Gamecocks Wednesday at Louisa County High School. She also held offers from Ohio State and Kansas State.

"I loved everything about it," she said of South Carolina. "The weather, the coaches, the people. It's just very friendly. It's like a big family down there. I'm ready to get down there and do some big things."

Burruss has six individual state titles to her credit in her three years of competition thus far. The state record is nine.

She is the reigning champ in the long jump, triple jump and 100m hurdles.

"I'm happy. It means a lot. I'm thankful for my Mom, my Dad, my friends, teachers because without them, I couldn't have made it this far."
