Signing Day at Fork Union

Christian Hackenberg heard all the rumors and speculation that he would de-commit from Penn State during the program's tumultuous past year.

He remained steadfast in his committment to head coach Bill O'Brien and the Nittany Lions and Wednesday morning, Hackenberg finally put the rumors to rest by signing his letter of intent to play for Penn State.

"At the end of the day I've been trying to tell people this is where I was going to be but I guess they weren't going to believe it until the ink was dry," Hackenberg said with a smile.

The top-rated quarterback in the country by ESPN and Rivals.com, Hackenberg was joined by his parents as he finally signed on the dotted line.

"It's a relief. It feels like three years even though it's only been one. It's a great accomplishment and I'm really ready to start working now."

Hackenberg credited his relationship with O'Brien and a tight knit recruiting class as factors in his decision.

"He definitely played a big role. I think he played a big role for a lot of us. Just knowing that he's there and sticking around for sure is great."

O'Brien hasn't told Hackenberg what the plan on the field is for the incoming freshman.

"He just told me be ready to come in and compete so that's how I'm going into it. I'm a competitor and I want to play but at the end of the day it's (O'Brien's) decision."
