'Hoos Win Fifth ITA Indoor Title

Posted: 6:13 PM Feb 18, 2013

For the fifth time in six years, the Virginia men's tennis team is bringing home an ITA Team Indoor championship.

The top-seed Cavaliers knocked off second-seeded USC 4-2 on Monday afternoon to win this year's title. Virginia needed just 40 minutes to win the doubles point, then the Cavaliers' top three singles players -- Jarmere Jenkins, Alex Domijan, and Mitchell Frank -- each won in straight sets to clinch the win.

"This is another stepping stone for our program, to win another National Indoor Championship," head coach Brian Boland said. "We now have to get ready for the outdoor season and continue to get better to accomplish the goals this team has for itself.”

Virginia had won four consecutive ITA Indoor titles from 2008 to 2011, while the Trojans won last year's championship. USC has also defeated the Cavaliers in the last two NCAA championships.

“Playing USC is always a challenge,” said Boland. “They have a great program and we have so much for respect for them. We have had a lot of great battles with them in the past, and today was no exception, and we know that there will be more to come in the future."
