Virginia Wrestling Blanks Duke

The 11th-ranked Virginia wrestling team scored a 38-0 win over Duke Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium, allowing just four offensive points in 10 victories against the Blue Devils. The Cavaliers won their second match since earning the highest national ranking in program history last week.
The win is the Cavaliers’ first dual shutout since beating Duke 40-0 on Feb. 12, 2010.
No. 16 Jedd Moore, No. 7 Nick Sulzer, Stephen Doty, and Zach Nye each earned bonus points in their wins at 157, 165, 184 and 197 pounds, respectively.
The Cavaliers also got wins from 20th-ranked Derek Valenti, who won by forfeit at 149 pounds, Derek Papagianopoulos, who won a 6-2 decision over Brian Self in his heavyweight match, and 7th-ranked Matt Snyder at 125.
Ranked 14th nationally, Jon Fausey earned the win at 174 pounds, for his team-leading 25th victory of the year. At 133 pounds, 13th-ranked George DiCamillo beat Brandon Gambucci, 4-3, and at 141 pounds, Jimmy Nehls picked up a 3-2 win against 2012 NCAA qualifer Tanner Hough.
Virginia improves to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in the ACC with the win. The Cavaliers have a week off before wrestling NC State at home at 1 p.m. next Sunday.
