Poston Takes Over Nelson Football Program

Mark Poston has been hired as the Nelson County Governors new head football coach, athletic director Billy League announced Friday.

"I know we're going to have a great experience here, and I'm just really excited about it," Poston said about his new team.

Poston spent the last seven years at Eastern Montgomery, compiling a 42-35 record and leading the Mustangs to the state championship game in 2010.

He now takes over a Nelson County team that won just two games last year and five total games in the last three years. The Governors haven't had a record over .500 since 2007. Poston says he plans to change the culture at Nelson.

"You've got to start changing it on a day-to-day basis," he says of turning things around. "We've got to work and change the process and get the kids, the first thing you have to develop is confidence. And that's what we're really going to work on, and that's not made overnight, but we're gonna get there."

Poston brings a fast-paced offensive style to the Governors.

"We're going to throw the football, we're going to run it, but the main thing is the tempo," he says. "When we've been really good we could snap it once every 6 seconds. I know that's really really fast, but the kids can do it. It's going to be a different animal."
