Littlepage: UVa a Proud ACC Member

Message boards and other outlets may be filled with speculation about where Virginia will wind up, in the latest round of college conference realignment.

But the school's director of athletics says the Cavaliers aren't going anywhere.

The school's athletics department released a three-paragraph statement from Craig Littlepage on Tuesday. The statement's purpose was to "put an end to this speculation as it relates to UVa."

"The University of Virginia is a proud member of the Atlantic Coast Conference," Littlepage said in the statement. "Neither representatives of the athletics department, nor President Theresa Sullivan, has received invitations to nor sought membership in other conferences."

The ACC has been active through the latest round of conference realignment. Last fall, Syracuse and Pittsburgh announced plans to leave the Big East for the ACC, and earlier this fall Notre Dame made the same decision for all sports but football. Just last week, Maryland voted to leave the ACC for the Big Ten.

That decision set off rounds of rumors linking Virginia to the Big Ten and SEC, rumors Littlepage sought to squash with Tuesday's statement.

"We firmly stand behind the Atlantic Coast Conference," he said.
