No. 6 Virginia Falls in Overtime at Syracuse

Posted: 6:59 PM Mar 1, 2013

The No. 6 Virginia men's lacrosse team lost for the first time this season, falling No. 18 Syracuse, 9-8. The Cavs fell to 4-1 on the year.

“Talking with Coach [Marc] Van Arsdale earlier in the week ,we discussed this could be a very low-scoring Virginia-Syracuse lacrosse game,” said Virginia head coach Dom Starsia. “We certainly felt ahead of time that 10 goals could win the game. I thought we battled, we have played a lot of lacrosse – we played Tuesday night. I thought we battled, but had too many mistakes and gave away too many opportunities, too many chances and didn’t get to play enough on the offensive side of the field.”

Rob Emery and Mark Cockerton had two goals each for Virginia while Matt White added a goal and an assist.

The Cavaliers return to action on Tuesday, when Vermont comes to Klöckner Stadium. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
