Covenant alum Luke Heinsohn has been recognized for his record-breaking senior season at Washington & Lee.

On Wednesday, Heinsohn was named this year's winner of the Lanier Award. The annual award, presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, goes to the best player from the NCAA Division II, III, NAIA and USCAA football programs in the state of Virginia.

Heinsohn, a running back and kicker for the Generals, was the ODAC's offensive player of the year, and an All-ODAC first team selection in 2012. He led the entire NCAA with a league-record 188 total points, including a school record with 22 rushing touchdowns. Heinsohn also ran for 1,253 yards, made 48-of-52 extra points, and made both of his field goal attempts.

Heinsohn is also one of four finalists for this year's Gagliardi Trophy, which goes to the best player in all of Division III college football. That trophy will be awarded next Wednesday in Salem.
