If the Virginia basketball team is going to win its seventh straight game on Saturday, the Cavaliers will have to do it without senior point guard Jontel Evans.
Evans has been in and out of the Virginia lineup all season after having surgery on a stress fracture in his right foot during the preseason. Evans re-aggravated the injury in the second half of Wednesday night's 46-38 win over Tennessee, the Cavaliers' sixth in a row.
Redshirt freshman Teven Jones is expected to start in place of Evans on Saturday.
Evans missed Virginia's first two games, then only played three minutes off the bench in last month's loss to Delaware. He sat out the next three before returning against Wisconsin. He played off the bench in the Cavaliers' wins against the Badgers and Green Bay, before making his first start of the season against the Volunteers.
Evans is averaging 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in four games this season, with 11 assists.
Jones started four games in place of Evans, with the Cavaliers winning all four games. He's averaging 4.5 points in six games this season, with 15 assists and six steals.
