Virginia's Defense Stifles Seminoles in Win

Posted: 9:09 PM Jan 19, 2013

The Virginia men's basketball team beat Florida State for the first time in eight tries, winning 56-36 on Saturday. Joe Harris led the way with 17 points, and Akil Mitchell added 13 points for the Cavaliers.

The 'Hoos went on a 22-4 run late in the first half, and eventually took a 33-15 into halftime. Florida State's 15 first-half points are the fewest allowed by UVa to an ACC opponent at halftime since Feb. 10, 1996.

Florida State shot 7-for-22 in the half, while the Cavaliers were 7-for-9 on 3-pointers. Akil Mitchell and Justin Anderson scored six points each during Virginia's run in the first half.

The Cavaliers are now 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the ACC. They travel to Blacksburg Thursday to take on Virginia Tech at 8 p.m.
