Virginia has added one of college football's heavyweights to its 2013 home schedule.

The Cavaliers will host Oregon at Scott Stadium on September 7 as part of a two-game series, Virginia announced on Monday. The two schools will meet again in Eugene during the 2016 football season.

With the addition of the Ducks, the 2013 football season will mark the first time the Cavaliers have hosted eight home games in the history of Scott Stadium.

ā€œI’m looking forward to playing eight home games next season,ā€ Virginia head coach Mike London said in a school-issued release on Monday. "We want our players to be able to compete against great teams. Bringing BYU and Oregon to Scott Stadium to start the season will be a tremendous challenge, but one our team is preparing for now and is very excited to take on.ā€

The Ducks are coming off a 12-1 season in 2012, that ended with a 35-17 win against Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl. Oregon finished the season ranked No. 2 in both polls, and also finished second in the country in scoring averaging, putting up 49.6 points-per-game.

Oregon replaces Penn State on the Virginia schedule. The Cavaliers were supposed to travel to Happy Valley on September 14, but that game was dropped from the schedule. Virginia executive associate athletics director Jon Oliver said in Monday's release that UVa hopes to reschedule its trip to Penn State.

Oregon joins BYU (August 31), VMI (September 21), and Ball State (October 5) on Virginia's non-conference schedule for 2013. The Cavaliers will also host ACC opponents Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech, with dates for those games expected to be announced next month.
