According to AuburnSports.com, Tigers star running back Micheal Dyer will not play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Virginia after a violation of a team rule. Auburn confirmed the suspension to The Birmingham News on Sunday.

Dyer was an All-SEC selection and 1000-yard rusher for the second straight season. His 1,242 yards were second in the conference to Heisman finalist Trent Richardson of Alabama. Dyer scored 10 of the teams 16 rushing touchdowns this season. In 2010, he was named offensive MVP in the BCS Championship game when the Tigers were crowned national champions. His 1,093 yards last season set a new freshman record.

Freshman Tre Mason will likely start in place of Dyer against Virginia on December 31. He has rushed for 97 yards on 19 carries.

Auburn and Virginia meet December 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.
