Last season marked a year that the Nelson football team would like to forget. The Governors finished 3-7, and near the bottom of the Dogwood District. 2009, however, is looking up, as Nelson has a new look to it.
Mark Wells takes over head coaching duties, after serving as an assistant coach. He's from Nelson County, and says he hopes to restore the way football used to be there, when the community rallied around the football team. Wells has a lot to work with, as 17 starters return from last year's squad.
Nelson will open up its season on September 4 against Buckingham. Click on the video link to view Matt Parsons' preview of the 2009 Nelson Governors.
