Albemarle Spelling Bee: Students Compete for Regional Competition

February 19, 2014

Albemarle County students competed against each other in a spelling bee at Burley Middle School Wednesday night, vying for spots in the regional competition.

Students faced three judges awaiting either a green card, meaning the word was spelled correctly, or a red card, meaning that student was eliminated.

One-by-one chairs started to empty as words became more and more challenging.

Despite the uphill battle, students who were unable to win spots to the regional competition say participating in the competition is well worth it.

This is the 9th year that Albemarle County students have competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
