Women's health care at Martha Jefferson Hospital is getting a big boost.
The Women's Committee of Martha Jefferson Hospital is announcing that it raised $424,000 through their two 2012 fundraisers "In the Pink Tennis Tournament" and "Martha's Market".
The money helps provide medical services for underserved and uninsured women in central Virginia.
Linda Payne found out she had breast cancer after attending a free breast screening day a few years ago, and is thankful for the hospital's resources.
"It saved my life. If i hadn't been there that day and been in the right place at the right time because of the free mammogram, I wouldn't have been diagnosed and what I found may have been stage four," said Linda Payne, Breast Cancer Survivor.
Payne has since been treated and is now cancer free.
Over the years, the Women's Committee has raised $4 million for Martha Jefferson Hospital.
