ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the illegal dumping of sewage in Rocky Mount.
Rocky Mount police tell media outlets that more than one septic company may be illegally dumping sewage.
One person has been charged since the investigation began in January. A Plus Septic Service president Matthew Ferguson is accused of dumping up to 2,500 gallons of sewage near a church and Coles Creek.
A hiker reported seeing sludge dumped at another site near Furnace Creek.
Assistant town manager Matt Hankins says the town's drinking water hasn't been affected.
Several local agencies, along with state and federal authorities, are investigating.
