The first robbery occurred on Ridge Street in Charlottesville.
Charlottesville Police arrested Jamar Chapman for attempted robbery.
Police said Chapman went to a home on the 1000 block of Ridge Street, asked to use the phone, and was invited in by one woman.
Just seconds later he tried to rob the woman inside her home. However, the woman's son was home and actually restrained Chapman until police arrived.
The second attempted robbery occurred on River Road when someone tried to break into Blue Ridge Motor Works Incorporated.
Charlottesville Police said it did not look like anything was taken, but there was about $500 in damage to the building.
Police believe an alarm may have scared off the intruders.
Anyone with any information call crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
