A UVA law school grad was approved by the Senate as the head of the Federal Trade Commission.

Debbie Majoras will be responsible for such weighty issues as spammers, telemarketers, anti–trust violators, and fraudsters who post deceptive weight loss ads.

Before she was appointed by president bush to the position, Majoras was an anti–trust lawyer at the justice department.

She played an integral part in the Microsoft anti–trust case and General Electric–Honeywell merger.
One of Majoras' goals as FTC Chief will be to cut through bureaucratic red tape and speed up the government's mergers review process.

Her term will end in 2008.
