Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Minister In Franklin County

November 21, 2007

A man accused of killing the minister of a rural church has pleaded guilty to charges of capital murder and robbery.

Under a plea agreement with Franklin County prosecutors, Charles Vincent Cobler will be sentenced to life in prison on the murder charge and 20 years on the robbery charge. He could have faced the death penalty.

According to evidence presented in court, Cobler went to the
Reverend Nancy Copin's house on April 2nd, intending to rob her. He asked to use her phone, then attacked her after he was in the house,
punching her and pulling a cabinet on top of her.

Authorities have said the 60-year-old pastor of Snow Creek Christian Church also showed signs of strangulation. Officials have said Cobler told them he decided to rob Copin after seeing the collection plate at a Palm Sunday service. He left with Copin's purse but threw it away after he didn't find any money.
