November 23, 2007

(AP) Botetourt County authorities say a Roanoke man was stabbed to death after an argument over a bicycle.

Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle says 20-year-old Steven Carter is the county's first homicide victim of the year. Carter was killed about 3 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of a Cloverdale apartment complex.

The sheriff's office says 35-year-old Dion Algernon Payne of Cloverdale has been charged with first-degree murder. According to
police, the argument took place in the parking lot of Payne's apartment and centered on a bike owned by Payne.

Payne is being held without bond in the Botetourt County Jail.
