You've seen Art In Place, but what about Art Out of Place? A Charlottesville man, Weldon Showalter says he created a nine-foot plywood sculpture called calls his Meadow Creek Parkway Alien to make a statement. He calls his Meadow Creek Parkway Alien, a dual fantasy.
“I was making fun of the art in place, the city spends an awful lot of money on art in place and to make light of the parkway. We're never going to have that, they've been talking about Meadow Creek Parkway for 35 years now,” says Showalter.
He says because of this he suffers more than anyone. He lives on busy Park Street.
“You can imagine with a car going by your driveway every two seconds how much fun it is getting out of your driveway,” says Showalter.
But he and his wife, Janice, say it's all about expressing yourself while having a little chuckle.
“I've had so many people come in and compliment us on it so It's been fun to hear what people have to say and to see him change it," says Janice Showalter.
Well, it's been in his front yard for two years and he agrees, it's time for a change. In a week he says he'll create a new sign for his front yard.
