Ashley Flint had her follow-up MRI Thursday, February 3rd during her third visit to the UVA medical facility. This is a routine procedure, but what is not so routine is the donation that actor Tom Cruise left for her just a few months ago.

Cruise was in Lexington filming the Steven Spielberg movie War of the Worlds when he saw Ashley's donation jar at a Dairy Queen. The star dropped in a whopping $5,000 to help with Ashley's medical expenses. It was a great help to her family who have been struggling to make ends meet.

"From September to three weeks ago I was on family medical leave, which comes without pay," said Ashley's mother, Regina Cornwell. "So, I couldn't have paid bills without some money."

"The hospital bills, pretty bad," said Ashley Flint. "So it really helped that he gave the money so we could pay for the hospital bills."

Ashley has undergone three surgeries to repair her carotid artery in her neck, which was torn in two places. The MRI today was taken to make sure that coils inserted to fix the tears are in place. Ashley's family is hoping the MRI shows that the previous surgery was successful.

In total, Tom Cruise and lots of other people in her family's community of Buena Vista have helped raised about $12,000 for Ashley and her family.
