The University of Virginia will 'consider' annual 10 percent tuition increases over the next five years, part of a shift to greater autonomy.

The proposed increases were offered for review to the Board of Visitors' finance committee on Thursday, February 3rd.

UVa, Virginia Tech, and the College of William and Mary are seeking 'charter status', which would mean less state control over things like tuition. In return, the schools would give up some state funding.

Tuition and fees at UVa this school year total $6,600. Room and board is about $6,000.
