A proposed constitutional amendment that would ban same sex marriage in Virginia was easily approved by a House committee on Friday, February 4th.
The committee also endorsed an amendment that would open up public property, including schools, to preaching, praying and other forms of religious expression.
Constitutional amendments in Virginia must win House and Senate passage in two sessions with a legislative election in between, then be submitted to voters in statewide referendum.
Voters in 11 states last fall ratified same sex marriage bans.
