On January 4th the fire department responded to a blaze in the backyard of this house. That's when they realized that the house's 16 acres of land were filled with junk.

Junk such as appliances, machinery, scrapmetal, tires, vehicles, household trash, and Christmas displays adorned the yard.

"It's quite unattractive," said Frank Wawnar, a neighbor.

Wawner lives a few doors down from Cecil and Doris Gardner. And he said this wasn't the first fire they've had in their backyard; he's seen 3. "One time a very large pile of tires about the size of my house caught on fire and burned for several days," said Wawner.

Authorities said the Gardner's are violating the county zoning code and in turn, could be affecting neighbors health.

"They've been around testing all of our wells to see if there is any contamination in the wells from the toxic runoff of whatever they have there," said Wawner.

The Gardner's have been told to clean up their illegal junkyard or they'll be slapped with charges.

"I'm thinking about getting more evergreen trees, fast growing trees to block off the rest of it. This obviously doesn't help the property values any," said Wawner.
