A 6 to 8 acre brush fire broke out Thursday, February 10th, 2005 on the border of Fluvanna County and Albemarle County at the pine farm near Route 620 in Scottsville.
It took 2 and a half hours for fire fighters to finally contain the blaze.
The flames started around four o'clock.
Officials said pine and underbrush were engulfed.
Thirty-two fire fighters from Fluvanna, Fork Union, Palmyra and Scottsville were there to fight the fire but, when they realized the enormous size of the blaze they had to use an alternative method.
"Forestry brought a tractor in, they were able to get a line around it. We surrounded it with the trucks and just waited for the tractor to get in and put a line in. It was just too dangerous to put personnel inside with the winds," said Timmy Cersley, Chief of the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department.
Officials said there were 15 to 20 miles per hour wind gusts that made the fire almost impossible to fight.
The fire department is still investigating what could have caused this 6 to 8 acre brush fire.
