A high school student is being treated for injuries after being struck by a car while on the way home from school. The driver and witnesses in the area are all shaken-up as a result.

It happened just before 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, February 15th near the 1600 block of Grove Road.

Charlottesville police say a girl, who they believe was on her way home from Charlottesville High School, was hit by a car while crossing the street to get into another car.

"Basically, we had a vehicle traveling eastbound on Grove Road at Yorktown Road, when another car stopped on westbound Grove Road. The car going westbound was trying to pick up the young lady that darted across the street to get into that car", said Master Sergeant Mel Bishop, with the Charlottesville Police Department.

The girl, who is 16 years old, was transported to the University of Virginia Hospital for non– life threatening injuries. As for the driver, according to police, she is not expected to be charged, and is cooperating as the investigation continues.
