Albemarle's elementary schools will now have longer school days.
The county School Board voted on Tuesday, February 15th to add 15 minutes to the schedule at elementary schools.
Ten minutes will be added to the beginning of the day, and five minutes will be added to the end of the day.
The school board also heard from parents during the meeting on Tuesday night, who are concerned about one aspect of revamping the middle school curriculum. A proposal would add instructional time in English and Math courses for some Henley and Jack Jouett students.
Their concern is that it would reduce the allotted time for exploratory courses such as band and chorus. Superintendent Kevin Castner says, "Nothing has been finalized, and the model is already being used at the three other middle schools."
There will be no change for middle and high school students.
